Ever since Sam Wilson inherited Steve Rogers’ shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame, fans have been eager to see him as the MCU’s new Captain America. However, there will be another star-spangled character vying for the spotlight when The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres. The show marks Wyatt Russell’s MCU debut as John Walker, a.k.a. U.S. Agent. But it looks like he isn’t going by that name on the series…at least not right away.
Early shots of the series’ toys are starting to make the rounds, and one collector found a set of Minimates that includes Winter Soldier and John Walker figures. The box appears to confirm what most fans have already suspected: Walker will be introduced as the new Captain America, which will likely put him at odds with Sam and Bucky. Walker’s role as the new Captain America echoes his trajectory in Marvel’s comic book universe. After a brief stint as Super-Patriot, Walker took over as Cap after Steve retired in the ‘80s. Unfortunately, he quickly proved that he lacked the discipline for this job, forcing Steve to reclaim his mantle. Walker returned as U.S. Agent, sporting the black and red costume that Rogers previously wore as “the Captain.”
Marvel still hasn’t given The Falcon and the Winter Soldier a new release date on Disney+. Regardless, it should arrive next year.
