Tim Burton & Smallville Producers Team For Live-Action Addams Family Series

It looks like The Addams Family is heading back to TV for a new live-action series. According to Deadline, MGM TV is shopping an updated Addams Family series to streaming services and cable networks. And MGM is already negotiating with Tim Burton to executive produce the series.

Deadline notes that Burton’s deal is not finalized. But it also states that Burton may end up directing all of the episodes himself. If so, this would be Burton’s first-ever live-action TV series. Burton is best known for directing BatmanBeetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and other dark and quirky movies.

Additionally, former Smallville showrunners/developers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are on board as well. Gough and Millar will be the showrunners and also the head writers for the new Addams Family.

Netflix is reportedly “at the top of the list of landing the project.” The report also states that the new show takes place in the present, with Wednesday Addams as the POV character.

Cartoonist Charles Addams created the Addams Family in 1938, and the macabre household has remained iconic ever since. Two previous live-action series were on TV, as well as two live-action Addams Family movies in the ’90s. Last year, MGM also released a new Addams Family animated film, with a sequel set to arrive next year.
