Over a year ago, Netflix fleshed out The Dark Crystal mythos with a prequel series that traced the origins of the Gelfling-Skeksis conflict. Unfortunately, their story won’t continue past the original 10 episodes. io9 is reporting that Netflix has chosen not to move forward with another season of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
Age of Resistance was critically acclaimed after it premiered on the streaming service last summer. Critics and fans alike were thrilled to return to the planet Thra to see how the Gelflings began their uprising against the Skeksis. Keeping true to the spirit of Jim Henson’s classic 1982 film, the series utilized cutting-edge puppet characters with minimal CGI effects. Louis Leterrier directed all 10 episodes, which featured a voice cast that included Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Nathalie Emmanuel. Henson’s daughter Lisa, who’s also the CEO of the Jim Henson Company, served as an executive producer.
Lisa Henson also issued her own statement on Age of Resistance’s cancellation.

“We can confirm that there will not be an additional season of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance,” wrote Henson. “We know fans are eager to learn how this chapter of The Dark Crystal saga concludes. And we’ll look for ways to tell that story in the future. Our company has a legacy of creating rich and complex worlds that require technical innovation, artistic excellence, and masterful storytelling. Our history also includes productions that are enduring, often finding and growing their audience over time and proving again and again that fantasy and science fiction genres reflect eternal messages and truths that are always relevant.”
“We are so grateful to Netflix for trusting us to realize this ambitious series,” continued Henson. “We are deeply proud of our work on Age of Resistance, and the acclaim it has received from fans, critics and our peers. [It] recently [received] an Emmy for Outstanding Children’s Program.”
The creative minds behind the series previously discussed the possibility of a second season. But now, fans will have to make do with the last episode’s cliffhanger ending being the final word. Netflix also chronicled Age of Resistance‘s production in a feature-length documentary, The Crystal Calls.
