Giancarlo Esposito Drops Hints About The Mandalorian Season 2

If Giancarlo Esposito isn’t leading us on, Moff Gideon may get what he wants in The Mandalorian’s second season. While speaking at FAN EXPO Vancouver (via Comic Book), Esposito revealed that Gideon will have scenes with the Child/Baby Yoda when the show returns this fall.

When a fan asked about Baby Yoda merchandise, Esposito didn’t hold back about his love for the Child.

“Normally, I like babies…but in this case, I love this baby!” explained Esposito. “Look, they made a show with Baby Yoda — I don’t think they had a real idea how big this baby would be. I don’t think they knew, judging from the fact there’s not a lot of merchandising out there for Baby Yoda…I love Baby Yoda, and I’m most excited about having some airtime with that baby.”

Esposito also recalled speaking with series creator Jon Favreau and producer Dave Filoni about the impact of Baby Yoda.

“There was some conversation about that, and I think at one point they were thinking about CGI-ing the baby,” said Esposito. “But Jon Favreau realized, and Dave Filoni — Dave Filoni needs to be in your consciousness. Dave Filoni is the Star Wars guy who nobody knows. Dave Filoni is the brain trust, and I think it was a wise decision for them to have it take physical space, because that space allows all of us to be so wowed by its presence.”

At the end of the first season of The Mandalorian, Mando went off with Baby Yoda to their next adventure. However,  Esposito’s Moff Gideon survived his TIE-Fighter crash and emerged from the wreckage with the darksaber in hand. We’ll learn more when The Mandalorian season 2 hits Disney+ in October.
