Taika Waititi Says He Knows Baby Yoda’s Real Name

As soon as The Mandalorian’s first episode premiered on Disney+, the “Baby Yoda” moniker was bound to catch on. After all, what else were viewers supposed to call the pint-sized force user who bears a striking resemblance to one of the most powerful Jedi Masters in the Star Wars canon? Fortunately, it sounds like that answer will definitely arrive with The Mandalorian’s second season. Taika Waititi has become the latest actor from the series to divulge that he knows the character’s real name.

The New York Times’ Kyle Buchanan caught up with Waititi at this past weekend’s Golden Globes. Waititi also directed The Mandalorian’s first season finale, so he also probably knows where the series goes next when it returns later this year. He confirmed that the show’s producers have already chosen Baby Yoda’s real name. But of course, he resisted any pressure to spill the beans too early. You can check out Buchanan’s tweet below.

Waititi makes the latest Mandalorian cast member to admit their knowledge of Baby Yoda’s true identity. Last week, Gina Carano revealed that she also knows his name. However, the rest of us will have to wait until the second batch of episodes begins airing in the fall.

Meanwhile, Waititi is clearly having fun teasing the upcoming reveal. In fact, he recently shared his own theory about the character’s name, perhaps in a bold effort to throw fans off the trail.
