The CW Extends Batwoman’s First Season to 22 Episodes

Three episodes into its inaugural season, Batwoman is demonstrating itself to be a worthy addition to The CW’s Arrowverse. The series has also amassed a loyal fanbase, and now, the network is rewarding these viewers with more hour-long adventures. Deadline is reporting that The CW is giving Batwoman a full-season order with 22 episodes.

Batwoman’s first season was originally supposed to last only 13 episodes. Fortunately, it looks like the show’s ratings have really impressed network executives. Deadline notes that the series has achieved success in the “delayed viewing” market, or views via DVR or streaming. Plus, it has done well in terms of traditional live viewers, which have increased 73% among adults 18-34 and 80% among adults 18-49. Batwoman is also The CW’s second most-watched and highest-rated series in the latter demographic, second only to The Flash.

Batwoman wasn’t the only freshman CW series to get a full-season pickup today. The network granted a similar upgrade to Nancy Drew, which also premiered this month. Both of these series also happen to be the first CW shows that will stream exclusively on CWTV.com and the CW app the day after they air. Previously, the network only made a handful of current-season episodes available online due to its streaming deal with Netflix, which came to an end earlier this year.

Batwoman airs Sunday nights at 8pm on The CW.
