Netflix’s ‘Locke & Key’ Series Casts Tyler and Kinsey Locke

Netflix’s attempt at a Locke & Key series has cast two new leads. Deadline is reporting that Connor Jessup and Emilia Jones have joined the adaptation as Tyler and Kinsey Locke, respectively.

Jessup is best known for playing Ben Mason, the son of Noah Wyle’s character on TNT’s Falling Skies. He most recently appeared in two seasons of ABC’s anthology series, American Crime, playing a different character each season. Meanwhile, Jones had a recurring role on the British series Utopia and also appeared in a 2013 episode of Doctor Who.

Created by writer Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodriguez, the original Locke & Key comic ran from 2008 to 2013. It consisted of six separate volumes along with a small handful of one-shots published in between. Set primarily in an arcane New England mansion called the Keyhouse, the series followed the three Locke children – Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode – as they unlock the house’s secrets (in more ways than one) and become tangled up in ancient family drama. Jackson Robert Scott was previously cast as Bode in the upcoming series.

This isn’t the first time that a live-action Locke & Key has been planned. A Fox television pilot was filmed in 2011, but the network ultimately passed on the series. Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Josh Friedman co-wrote that episode, which starred Jesse McCartney as Tyler and Sarah Bolger as Kinsey. Years later, Orci and Kurtzman plotted a film adaptation that never got off the ground. The current series was originally ordered by Hulu in 2017 before changing hands to Netflix earlier this year. Hill is co-writing the new pilot episode with Aron Eli Coleite. Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill will share showrunning duties.
