Ice Cube’s 2025 Action Comedy To Get a Sequel — Report

Sony’s giant snake is not done hunting just yet, as Ice Cube and his co-stars from the 2025 holiday season may be returning to the big screen sooner than expected. A reliable industry insider has dropped a major scoop regarding the future of one of last Christmas’s most talked-about blockbusters. The report suggests that the beloved action-comedyensemble behind the reboot could be gearing up for another wild adventure.

Anaconda 2 rumored to be in works

A sequel to Sony’s 2025 Anaconda reboot is reportedly in development, according to industry insider MyTimeToShineHello on X.

The 2025 film, directed by Tom Gormican, starred Paul Rudd and Jack Black as childhood friends attempting to remake the original 1997 film in the Amazon Rainforest. The meta-reboot grossed $135 million worldwide against a $45 million production budget. Critics delivered mixed reviews, with Rotten Tomatoes recording a 48% approval rating from 155 critics.

The original 1997 Anaconda, directed by Luis Llosa, starred Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube and grossed $136.8 million globally. That film generated three direct sequels, a crossover with the Lake Placid franchise, a Chinese remake, and ultimately the 2025 Gormican reboot. The 2025 film’s post-credits scene featured Lopez appearing as herself, inviting Doug to direct an actual franchise reboot.

MyTimeToShineHello posted the scoop on April 9, 2026, writing: “Anaconda 2 is in development (a sequel to the reboot).” Sony has not officially confirmed the project at this stage. The 2025 film began streaming on Netflix on March 25, 2026, likely expanding its audience ahead of any formal announcement.

Audience reception for the reboot was generally positive, earning a “B” CinemaScore from polled moviegoers. Rudd and Black notably swapped their respective roles during production after Black joined the project. Black took the lead role upon his own insistence, with Rudd shifting accordingly. Variety’s Peter Debruge wrote that “the only risk taken here was asking Sony — plus any surviving members of the original cast — to poke fun at themselves.”

Sony has not confirmed any cast or crew attachments for the reported sequel.
