James Gunn gives Creature Commandos Season 2 release date update
James Gunn has given a Creature Commandos update, confirming that Season 2 is currently in production. Responding to a fan on Threads who questioned, “When do we get more Creature Commandos?” Gunn replied, “When we’re done animating the new season which is in production now.” He also confirmed that the new season will take place after the events of Peacemaker Season 2, stating simply, “After,” when asked about the timeline placement.
Creature Commandos Season 1 aired from December 5, 2024, to January 9, 2025, launching the DCU. Season 1 concluded with The Bride (voiced by Indira Varma) assuming leadership of Task Force M. Returning characters include Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk), Weasel and G.I. Robot (both voiced by Sean Gunn), along with new characters Nosferata and Khalis, and King Shark from The Suicide Squad.
DC Studios confirmed Season 2 in December 2024 and reportedly began production in June 2025. They have not announced an official release date, but the lengthy animation process makes a 2027 debut likely. Season 1 took around 23 months from its announcement to its release.
The timeline placement after Peacemaker Season 2 suggests a time jump, as Season 1 of Creature Commandos occurred before the events of Superman and Peacemaker. This opens potential ties to the DC Comics Salvation Run storyline, which features the government exiling metahumans to another dimension.
Gunn confirmed that Zac Efron gave permission to use his likeness in the series, writing, “Grateful that @zacefron signed off on letting us use his image!” He has not announced any additional casting or release updates for Season 2 or other related DCU projects.
