James Gunn, the writer-director of Superman and co-head of the DCU, explained in a new interview why David Corenswet‘s version of the iconic superhero retained the character’s red trunks, while Henry Cavill’s iteration in the DCEU didn’t. Notably, the red trunks debuted in 1938 as part of Superman’s costume in Action Comics #1, which also marked Superman’s first appearance in the comics.
