After revealing last year that Marvel Zombies would hit Disney+ this October, Marvel Animation has revealed the exact day the What If…? spin-off will premiere on the streaming service.
When does Marvel Zombies premiere on Disney+?
The Walt Disney Company recently previewed the three Marvel Animation series that will be hitting Disney+ in 2025. Until now, Marvel and Disney+ had only revealed an October 2025 release window for Marvel Zombies, but in the new preview, it was announced that the hotly-anticipated What If…? spin-off would premiere on October 3, 2025.
Additionally, showrunner Bryan Andrews confirmed that the series had been rated TV-MA, which allowed them to go “a little bit more hardcore” with the four-episode limited series. “We go for the throat — no pun intended. It’s pretty wild, pretty out there,” he teased.
Marvel Zombies is a direct sequel to the fifth episode of What If…? Season 1, which pondered the possibility of an alternate reality in which Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers: Infinity War (both 2018) ended differently, resulting in a zombie apocalypse that left a few surviving heroes in search of a cure.
Despite the TV-MA rating, Andrews promised fans that the spin-off would still have a lot of heart, stating, “It’s not just a zombie story, it’s a sweeping adventure — one with themes of hope and despair, and that’s what you want from a rich zombie story.”
The returning voice cast for the animated series includes Marvel Cinematic Universe fan favorites Awkwafina (Katy), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Randall Park (Jimmy Woo), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Hailee Steinfeld (Kate Bishop), Dominique Thorne (Ironheart), Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel), and Todd Williams, whose role remains undisclosed at this time.
Andrews also revealed the return of one zombified Avenger: “An old favorite also shows up: Zombie Cap makes an appearance. He has quite a scuffle with another main character, and I think fans will love it.”
