Marvel’s Bullseye Actor on How He Lost Captain America Role to Chris Evans

In the wake of Captain America 4’s theatrical release, Wilson Bethel, who essays Bullseye in the MCU, has shared his experience about the time he unsuccessfully attempted to land the role of Steve Rogers. It ultimately went to Chris Evans, who played Captain America for eight years. Meanwhile, Bethel eventually entered the MCU via Daredevil in 2015, taking on the part of Benjamin ‘Dex’ Poindexter in the three-season series. With the actor-cum-producer now reprising his role of Bullseye in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series, he has reflected on how he came within inches of becoming MCU’s Captain America.

Wilson Bethel details his failed Captain America casting process

In a recent interaction, the Hart of Dixie star disclosed that his audition for the shield-wielding superhero went so well that he even donned the iconic blue costume while screen testing.

Wilson Bethel revealed the said anecdote during his appearance at a recent Fan Expo event. Talking about his age-old Marvel audition, he stated, “I came very close to being cast as Captain America. I went through multiple rounds of screen testing, and the suit felt incredible.”

The Bullseye actor further added, “There were all these things that were happening that made me feel like I was getting the part. And then I remember my agent calling me one day, and they’re like, ‘No, actually, they offered it to Chris Evans’ or whatever.”

Bethel soon landed the role of Bullseye in Netflix’s Daredevil series, which eventually became a part of the MCU in the franchise’s multiversal saga. His take on the psychopathic assassin received much acclaim from critics and audiences alike. As such, fans are excited to welcome Wilson Bethel back as Bullseye in the forthcoming Daredevil show. Led by Charlie Cox, Daredevil: Born Again will premiere on Disney+ on March 4, 2025.
