Deadpool 4: Ryan Reynolds Casts Doubts on a Sequel With Wolverine

Ryan Reynolds saw massive success this year as both an actor and producer with the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, and he recently expressed his thoughts on the possibility of another sequel in the franchise, Deadpool 4.

Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine broke several box office records in 2024. Grossing over $1.3 billion at the global box office, the hit sequel quickly became the highest-grossing R-rated of all time. However, Reynolds doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to follow it up with another entry in the series.

Ryan Reynolds reveals why Deadpool 4 would be redundant

Ryan Reynolds recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter from his Tribeca office and dived into some details regarding Deadpool & Wolverine and its possible sequel.

Since Deadpool’s entry into the MCU, fans have been speculating as to where the character might pop up next in the cinematic universe. However, Ryan Reynolds’ recent comments about Deadpool 4 suggest that the character’s next appearance might not be the same as previous appearances.

When asked about Deadpool 4, Reynolds described the time he spent working on Deadpool & Wolverine as “one of the best times of my life and a memory palace in my mind that I visit every day.” However, he expressed uncertainty about a sequel and said, “I don’t know what the future holds just yet. As for Deadpool & Wolverine, I have some pitches and ideas, but none of them center on Deadpool.” Reynolds described Deadpool as “a great supporting or ensemble player” rather than a potential lead for future movies. However, he also said that he wants to pair Deadpool and Wolverine again in future projects.

Reynolds also revealed that he doesn’t want to center the plot of a sequel around Deadpool again as he “can’t really do that again” and “a fourth time feels a little iterative and redundant.” Reynolds stressed that he wants to keep the fun alive in future Deadpool movies and doesn’t want to sacrifice that. He added, “There is still an arc for Deadpool which is fulfilling and powerful.”
