Deadpool & Wolverine premiered in U.S. theaters on July 26, 2024, and effectively established its two titular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie gained massive success. It received a 78% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 409 reviews and made over $1.3 billion against a $200 million production budget. Accordingly, there is plenty of fan interest in a potential sequel in which Logan (Hugh Jackman) and Wade (Ryan Reynolds) can team up again. And now, if industry rumors are to be believed, Deadpool & Wolverine 2 can potentially be released within the next few years.
New rumor states Deadpool & Wolverine 2 will release after Avengers: Secret Wars
Scooper MyTimeToShineHello (@MyTimeToShineH) took to X (formerly Twitter) to claim that “Deadpool & Wolverine 2 will release after Secret Wars.” Notably, Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled to debut on May 7, 2027.
This comes after Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, teased that Wolverine and Deadpool might show up again in an MCU project soon. “The plans with Deadpool and Wolverine will always be the same: we’re always wondering where we can fit them in and how fast,” he told Omelete at D23 Brazil.
The massive success of Deadpool & Wolverine has opened up a lot of avenues for prospective team-ups for Marvel. For instance, in a recent interview with Polygon, Wētā FX’s Daniel Macarin, who served as the VFX supervisor on Deadpool & Wolverine, expressed interest in working on Spider-man’s mask and a project involving Wade and Peter.
“A moment between Deadpool and Spider-Man — it would be a dream. I think we could have a tremendous amount of fun with it,” Macarin said.
It’s unclear in which MCU project Wolverine and Deadpool will appear next. Even if the above-mentioned claims are true, several movies are coming out between now and the release date of Secret Wars, so we can potentially see them again on the big screen before the potential sequel. When asked whether his character would appear in Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to release in 2026, Reynolds told Variety, “I’m not even being cagey. We’ll see what happens there.”
Now, it remains to be seen if these Deadpool & Wolverine 2 rumor turns out to be true.
