MCU’s Fantastic Four Movie Gets ‘Very Personal’ Synopsis

The first official synopsis for Marvel StudiosThe Fantastic Four: First Steps has been released.

What does The Fantastic Four: First Steps synopsis reveal about the movie?

The newly released synopsis reaffirms the retro-futuristic setting, with the movie taking place in an alternate timeline within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel’s First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/The Thing as they face their most daunting challenge yet,” reads the official synopsis.

“Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal,” concludes the synopsis.

With production on the highly anticipated reboot nearing its conclusion — Joseph Quinn recently told Variety that there are only two weeks left of filming — it seems that Marvel Studios is getting everything in place for the start of promotion on The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

First Steps will feature the official MCU debut of Marvel’s First Family, portrayed by Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing). Marvel Studios first announced their casting on Valentine’s Day.

Garner and Ineson join the quartet as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer and Galactus, respectively, with John Malkovich, Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles also part of the movie’s cast. The Fantastic Four’s robotic ally H.E.R.B.I.E. is also slated to appear.

It is worth noting that although Lyonne is voicing an original superhero named Byrdie in What If…? Season 3, that is not the character she is expected to portray in First Steps.

Matt Shakman, who previously helmed all nine episodes of Marvel’s 2021 limited series WandaVision, is directing the movie. Michael Giacchino will compose the movie’s score.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is scheduled to hit theaters on July 25, 2025, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
