Scarlet Witch and Thor are two of the most powerful entities in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There have been considerable speculations among fans on who would win a fight between the two characters. Now, Elizabeth Olsen, who has portrayed Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff in multiple MCU projects, has weighed in on the matter.
Elizabeth Olsen says Scarlet Witch is stronger, reveals how Thor would lose
During her recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote her movie His Three Daughters, Olsen revealed that she thought Scarlet Witch was more powerful than Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder before conjuring up a scenario in which her character could win against Thor. In the Monday, September 16 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Hemsworth, promoting Transformers One, appeared before Olsen as a guest on the show.
Asked by Kimmel who she thought was the more powerful Avenger between Wanda and Thor, Olsen said, “I think I am. I think theory has it that Wanda could beat him… I don’t know, I have never played with the hammer… I don’t know if that has happened actually.”
In response, Kimmel chipped in, “I think Wanda has powers that are greater than a hammer and lightning and probably is more powerful than the god of thunder, as powerful as he is.”
This led Olsen to speculate on how her character could defeat Thor in a battle. “I think I could probably somehow manipulate and go inside his body and do the same thing he does.” Moreover, she expressed her desire for Wanda to return in the MCU.
In Marvel Comics, the two characters faced off at least once. In Uncanny Avengers Volume 1 Issue #4, Wanda fought Thor with Havoc’s help. At the time, Thor’s mind was being manipulated by Red Skull, who had gotten access to telepathic powers. She eventually taps into her chaos magic to send the other member of the Avengers into space, effectively removing him from the battle and ending the fight.
