Kraven the Hunter tells the story of Sergei Kravinoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), a big-game hunter who gains superhuman abilities and a longer lifespan after he is exposed to a magical serum. The film focuses on the complex relationship between Sergei and his father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe).

The cast of Kraven the Hunter also includes Ariana DeBose as Calypso, Fred Hechinger as The Chameleon, and Christopher Abbott as The Foreigner. Levi Miller portrays a younger version of Sergei. The film is based on the eponymous character from Marvel Comics. J. C. Chandor (Triple Frontier) directed the movie from a screenplay by Richard Wenk, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway, who developed the script from a story by Wenk.

Previously, an iteration of the Rhino appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), with Paul Giamatti portraying the character. This version has connections to the Russian mafia and attempts to steal plutonium from Oscorp. However, Spider-Man ultimately orchestrates his incarceration. Earlier, Giamatti revealed that the character would have returned in the canceled third entry in the Amazing Spider-Man film series. And now, over a decade since his last live-action appearance, the Rhino will return to the big screen, albeit depicted by a different actor.
