The Batman 2 Script Update Given by James Gunn

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has provided an update on Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin’s script for the highly-anticipated DC sequel, The Batman Part II.

On Threads, Gunn responded to two questions from DC fans about The Batman Part II, which was first announced by Warner Bros. in April 2022. The DC Studios head confirmed that the script for The Batman sequel was still being worked on. He also shared that the script will not be finished until “Matt thinks it’s ready!”

Based on Gunn’s comments, it doesn’t look like the DC head is pushing Reeves and Tomlin toward any sort of deadline, allowing for the creatives to put together the best script possible. The Batman Part II will be the third installment in Reeves’ The Batman Saga after the 2022 original movie and the spinoff series, The Penguin, which premieres on Max this September.

Robert Pattinson returns as the Dark Knight in The Batman 2

After debuting as the Gotham City-based vigilante in The Batman, Robert Pattinson will reprise the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in The Batman Part II. At this time, Pattinson remains the only confirmed cast member on the project. However, Jeffrey Wright is expected to return as Lieutenant James Gordon, having previously mentioned in January that he was waiting to receive a copy of The Batman Part II script.

Other actors who appeared in The Batman include Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot/Penguin, with Barry Keoghan making a cameo appearance as The Joker.

Pattinson is also rumored, but not yet confirmed, to appear in The Penguin. The eight-episode limited series will take place one week after the events of The Batman, following Oswald Cobblepot’s rise to power in Gotham City’s criminal underworld. The Penguin will expand the world of The Batman Saga, introducing new characters like Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti), Salvatore Maroni (Clancy Brown), and Alberto Falcone (Michael Zegen).

The Batman Part II is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 2, 2026.
