Kirsten Dunst Open to More Comic Book Movies: ‘You Get Paid a Lot of Money’

One of Kirsten Dunst’s breakout roles was her portrayal of Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. If it was up to her, she’d star in more comic book movies — for more practical reasons.

Speaking to Marie Claire in a recent interview, Dunst was asked if she would ever star in another superhero movie if given the chance. Dunst was quick to say yes and gave a surprisingly candid answer about why.

“Yes,” Dunst said. “Because you get paid a lot of money, and I have two children, and I support my mother.”

Dunst’s last superhero role came in 2007

Dunst hasn’t stepped back into the world of comic book movies since her appearance in 2007’s Spider-Man 3, a role that saw her end her turn as Mary Jane Watson.

In the time since, however, both Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi have returned to the world of superheroes. Now, rumors have begun flying that Maguire and Raimi could be teaming up for a new Spider-Man entry, potentially paving the way for her return should the call come.

Most recently, Dunst starred in 2021’s The Power of the Dog, a role that she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 94th Academy Awards for. Next up, she’ll star in the 2024 A24 action film Civil War, directed by Alex Garland.
