Disney CEO Bob Iger Addresses Coppola and Scorsese Marvel Slams

It’s become pretty evident that directors Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola aren’t fans of Marvel films. They’ve been vocal about them over the past couple of weeks, noting that they’re “not cinema” and “despicable.”

However, Disney CEO Bob Iger vehemently disagrees. As reported by Fast Company, Iger spoke at a recent event about the controversial comments.

“I’m puzzled by it,” explained Iger. “If they want to bitch about movies it’s certainly their right. It seems so disrespectful to all the people who work on those films who are working just as hard as the people who are working on their films and are putting their creative souls on the line just like they are….Are you telling me that Ryan Coogler making Black Panther is doing something that somehow or another is less than anything Marty Scorsese or Francis Ford Coppola have ever done on any one of their movies? Come on.”

Marvel veteran Jon Favreau also sounded off on the matter while speaking with CNBC, but he went a little easier on Scorsese and Coppola.

These two guys are my heroes, and they have earned the right to express their opinions. I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing if they didn’t carve the way,” explained Favreau. “They served as a source of inspiration, you can go all the way back to [Favreau’s breakthrough film] SwingersThey can express whatever opinion they like.”
