Joe Morton, who plays Dr. Silas Stone (father/creator of Victor a.k.a. Cyborg) in Justice League, yesterday stated that one of the reasons for the extensive reshoots was to “lighten up the film.” Now star Ben Affleck has spoken out to Entertainment Weekly about Joss Whedon’s Justice League involvement in the wake of director Zack Snyder departing after a family tragedy.
“It’s a little bit unorthodox,” says Affleck of Whedon taking over. “Zack had a family tragedy, and stepped off, which was horrible. For the movie, the best person we could’ve possibly found was Joss. We got really lucky that he stepped in. It’s an interesting product of two directors, both with kind of unique visions, both with really strong takes. I’ve never had that experience before making a movie. I have to say, I really love working with Zack, and I really love the stuff we’ve done with Joss.”
Affleck also wanted to clarify that just because the reshoots have been a very dramatic and public process doesn’t necessarily mean bad things for Justice League or the DC Extended Universe.
“I’ve never worked on a movie that didn’t do reshoots,” Affleck added. “’Argo,’ we did reshoots for a week and a half! Four days on ‘Gone Baby Gone!’ This is a really nice time to work in DC. They’re hitting their stride. They’re getting it right. It’s starting to feel like it’s really working.”

But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Directed by Zack Snyder (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Man of Steel), the screenplay is by Chris Terrio from a story by Snyder and Terrio. Filmmaker Joss Whedon, who is also attached to a Batgirl film for the DCEU, is directing the additional photography for the sequel and is overseeing the completion of its post production following Snyder’s family tragedy. Justice League is produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns. The executive producers are Jim Rowe, Wesley Coller, Curt Kanemoto, Chris Terrio and Ben Affleck.
Justice League will open in theaters on November 17, 2017.
