Erica Durance Heads to Supergirl

Smallville’s Erica Durance is joining the next season of The CW’s Supergirl

Supergirl season three will offer another familiar face from Superman history. Per Deadline, Erica Durance is headed to the CW show. While fans should be excited to see Smallville‘s own Lois Lane again, Erica Durance will unfortunately be stepping into an existing role. She’ll play Alura Zor-El role, Kara’s Kryptonian birth mother. The part was just made vacant by the departing Laura Benanti.

“Unfortunately Laura, who Greg and I have worked with for years going back to ‘Eli Stone,’ was unable to continue in the role due to work commitments in NY,” Supergirl producer Andrew Kreisberg said. “But we are so blessed that Erica has come aboard to offer her own interpretation of Kara’s mother. We had tremendous success with a former Lois Lane last season with Teri Hatcher. We know Erica will continue the proud tradition of legacy actors joining our shows and creating new and exciting takes on classic DC characters.”

Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist in the title role, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen,  as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow “Winn” Schott, Jenna Dewan Tatum as Lucy Lane (sister of Lois), David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, Peter Facinelli as Maxwell Lord, with Dean Cain and Helen Slater. Supergirl season two has also featured recurring roles for Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor, Floriana Lima as Maggie Sawyer, and Lynda Carter, star of the ’70s Wonder Woman series, as the President of the United States.
