While production continues on Avengers: Infinity War, at least one OG Avenger may be down for the count. Variety brings word that Jeremy Renner, who reprises Clint Barton/Hawkeye in the event film, “broke his arms” while filming a stunt, fracturing his right elbow and his left wrist.
UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline both confirm that Renner injured himself on the Atlanta set of Tag, not Avengers: Infinity War. Since Tag is an ensemble featuring Ed Helms, Jon Hamm, Hannibal Buress and more, production on that film is unaffected while Renner heals. He has not begun shooting his part for Infinity War yet, and is scheduled to join his fellow Avengers on that Atlanta set at a later date. Read the rest of the article as it appeared earlier below…
“That’s how it goes,” Renner said while promoting Wind River at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, wearing braces on both arms. “It’s part of the job. I’m doing a job that isn’t really requiring a ton of stunts: It’s not an action movie, it’s a comedy — it just happens to have a few stunts in it. So I don’t have to beat a whole lot of people up or do anything crazy. So it won’t really affect my job… It affects how I get dressed in the morning. I can’t tie my shoes, but outside of that and everything else I can kind of get by.”
Confirmed cast members for Avengers: Infinity War so far include Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scalett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olson, Chadwick Boseman, Sebastian Stan, Don Cheadle, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Pom Klementieff, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Sean Gunn, Tom Holland, Jeremy Renner, Josh Brolin, and Paul Rudd.
Filming officially started on Monday, January 23, 2017 for the Avengers sequel, which sees Earth’s Mightiest Heroes teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on Brolin’s Thanos.
Directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who return after Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, are directing both Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled fourth film, which will be filmed back-to-back in Atlanta and are written by screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Both films will also be shot entirely with IMAX cameras.
Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War is slated for a release in theaters on May 4, 2018. Then, the Avengers assemble again for the still-untitled fourth film, set for May 3, 2019.
