Who’s on The Flash Director Short List?

Sam Raimi, Matthew Vaughn and Robert Zemeckis reportedly make up The Flash director short list

Last year, Warner Bros. Pictures‘ The Flash lost Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, who departed the DC Comics adaptation over creative differences. Then, earlier this year, word broke that the studio was looking at a page-one rewrite from King Arthur: Legend of the Sword scribe Joby Harold. Now, The Hollywood Reporter claims that the studio is looking to lock a new Flash director and has a very interesting list of names eyeing the project. As previously reported by Screen Junkies, that list includes Academy Award winner Robert Zemeckis. Today, the trade adds two names that should be very familiar to comic book movie fans: Sam Raimi and Matthew Vaughn. The former helmed Sony Pictures‘ original Spider-Man trilogy, while the latter directed comic book adaptations Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class as well as Kingsman: The Secret Service and its upcoming sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

According to the trade, Zemeckis is the current frontrunner for the Flash director’s chair. Scheduling conflicts with his next feature, an untitled war film starring Steve Carell, could prevent him, however, from taking the gig.

Rick Famuyiwa was the second Flash director to exit the project, following Seth Grahame-Smith earlier last year. It is currently believed that whoever takes the over as the film’s helmer will retain leading man Ezra Miller and announced stars Kiersey Clemons as Iris West and Billy Crudup as Barry Allen’s (Miller) father, Henry.

Following a debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and a cameo in Suicide Squad, Ezra Miller will next be seen as The Flash in Justice League, opening in theaters on November 17.
