Today sees the DC Comics comedy series Powerless canceled at NBC after a single season
Today sees the DC Comics comedy Powerless canceled after a single season on NBC. The show’s final three episodes were recently pulled from the Thursday night lineup on the network, so the news isn’t unexpected.

Powerless was set in the DC Comics universe, in a place called Charm City. Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens) had just gotten her dream job as Director of Research and Development for Wayne Security. In a city where superheroes and super villains battle it out on a regular basis, Wayne Security attempts to come up with products to help regular citizens keep from becoming collateral damage.
Powerless changed form from what many fans first saw during the show’s panel at last July’s San Diego Comic-Con. Executive producer Patrick Schumacker had been working on developing an earlier iteration of Powerless with former show runner Ben Queen. Even though the initial pilot was extremely well-received, some major changes to the series occurred that resulted in the version which premiered on NBC. The major change was in the characters’ workplace. Formerly set at an insurance firm (Retcon Insurance), the version of Powerless we saw on the network took place at Wayne Security. As such, Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), who always played the company’s dimwitted boss, was rewritten to be the cousin of Bruce Wayne.
Powerless also starred Danny Pudi (Community, Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Ron Funches (Trolls, Get Hard) and Christina Kirk (Along Came Polly, A – Z). How do you guys feel about NBC having Powerless canceled? Were you watching the show and did you see the original pilot at SDCC? Is there a DC Comics character you’d like to see in a new comedy?
