Scott Pilgrim Gets a PG-13 Rating!

With so much conjecture this past week about whether Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass may have been hindered by its R rating, thereby limiting its audience, the MPAA has announced today that Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, based on the comic series from Bryan Lee O’Malley, has received a PG-13 rating for "stylized violence, sexual content, language and drug references."

This decision may have come as a surprise to anyone familiar with Wright’s previous movies Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, which were clearly R-rated for language, violence and other things; Michael Cera, who plays the title character, also first made his mark with the raunchy R-rated humor of Superbad. Clearly, the "F-word" wasn’t required in order to bring the more innocent nature of O’Malley’s work, which combines humor, romance and video game action, to the screen, meaning that fans of the comics under 17 won’t have to suffer seeing the movie with one of their parents.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World comes out on August 13.
