Star Wars actor Felicity Jones isn’t ready to say goodbye to her Rogue One character, Jyn Erso, just yet.
Who did Felicity Jones play in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story?
Jones made her first, and so far only, appearance as Jyn Erso in the 2016 movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In the movie, which is set a week before the events of George Lucas’ original 1977 film, Jyn leads a group of rebels in a desperate attempt to steal the plans for the Galactic Empire’s ultimate weapon, the Death Star, which is capable of destroying an entire planet. Jyn has a personal connection to the Death Star as it was developed by her scientist father, Galen Erso, who was captured by the Empire when Jyn was just a child.
Although Jones signed a multi-film deal when she initially joined the sci-fi franchise, she has yet to appear again. Rogue One ends with Jyn and her team successfully stealing and transmitting the Death Star plans before the weapon is fired on their planet, killing them all. The character’s death means that Jones could only return as Jyn in prequel projects, such as the Disney+ series, Andor, which focuses on the titular Rogue One character played by Diego Luna.
While speaking with Screen Rant to promote her new movie The Brutalist, Jones was asked whether audiences have seen the last of Jyn Erso in the Star Wars galaxy. “Never. We’ll never say goodbye to her. She will live on, she’ll live on,” remarked that actor. She elaborated, “I mean, never say never. She’s a pretty badass character. Maybe she could come back as a hologram or something, which is completely possible in the Star Wars universe.”
While it’s possible that Jones could appear in Andor Season 2 as Jyn, it seems unlikely given that Jyn and Cassian Andor did not cross paths until Rogue One. However, with Andor already bringing back several other characters who appeared in Rogue One, such as Mon Mothma, Saw Gerrera, Orson Krennic, and K-2SO, the door is open for the writers to figure out a way to work in a guest shot for Jones, so long as Jyn and Cassian never share the screen.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Andor are available to stream on Disney+.
