The Fantastic Four Sets Production Start Date, Alternate Period Setting Confirmed

The Fantastic Four has been given a production start date.

Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige has revealed that The Fantastic Four will begin filming this July. He also spoke about the film’s setting, confirming theories that it will be set in an alternate reality in the past.

Feige spoke about the upcoming MCU movie on the Official Marvel Podcast. Regarding the film’s setting, Feige said, via IGN, “It is a period [piece], and there was another piece of art we released with Johnny Storm flying in the air, making a four symbol. There was a cityscape in the corner of that image and there was a lot of smart people who noticed that cityscape didn’t look exactly like the New York that we know and the New York that existed in the 60s in our world. And those are smart observations, I’ll say.”

Filming on The Fantastic Four will officially begin on July 29, 2024.

What else did Kevin Feige say about The Fantastic Four?

“I am incredibly excited for what we’re doing with The Fantastic Four right now, and what Matt Shackman, our director who did WandaVision for us, is working on,” Feige added. “He’s already moved to London, and we start filming at the end of July.

“I’m extremely excited by it because I think those characters are mainstays, are legendary pillars of the Marvel universe that we’ve never got to play with or explore in any significant way, apart from Multiverse of Madness and a few fun teases before. In the way that we’re doing it in that film.”

The Fantastic Four stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/the Thing, Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer, and Ralph Ineson as Galactus. John Malkovich, Paul Walter Hauser, and Natasha Lyonne are also playing undisclosed roles in the film.

The Fantastic Four releases in United States theaters on July 25, 2025, from Marvel Studios.
