Black Adam’s Aldis Hodge on Returning as DCU’s Hawkman: ‘My Door’s Always Open’

Black Adam star Aldis Hodge recently addressed the possibility of returning as Carter Hall/Hawkman in James Gunn’s DC Universe.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Hodge admitted that he couldn’t “really speak” about the chances of him coming back as the DCU’s Hawkman. “You’re gonna have to talk to James about it,” he added. “But yeah, I don’t know really what’s in store for Hawkman. I will say that I would like to finish out the plans that we had for Hawkman, and sort of revisit them, because there’s such a body of depth when it comes to his whole storyline, and all that kind of stuff.”

The actor continued, “So, if that’s something they’re interested in, my door’s always open for that. But, I know they want to build out a very different world. I can’t speak to whether I’m going to be part of that world, as that’s above my paygrade, but if they want to pick up the phone, I’m always here.”

Hawkman was the JSA’s leader in Black Adam

Hodge played the DC Extended Universe‘s Hawkman in the 2022 movie Black Adam opposite Dwayne Johnson as the titular antihero. Black Adam keeps Hawkman’s comic book origin story mostly intact, with the superhero being an archeologist who is the reincarnation of an Egyptian prince. The movie also establishes that he is the leader of the Justice Society of America, another superhero team working under A.R.G.U.S.’s Amanda Waller.

So far, the only DCEU actors confirmed to return for the DCU are Xolo Maridueña as Blue Beetle, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Sean Gunn as Weasel, John Cena as Peacemaker, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Freddie Stroma as Vigilante.

If Hodge does return as Hawkman, he will likely be sharing the screen with Isabela Merced, who Gunn has cast to play Hawkgirl in Superman: Legacy. Hawkgirl was originally set to appear in Black Adam before rewrites replaced her with Cyclone. At the time of writing, it is unknown what plans Gunn has for Hawkgirl after the forthcoming Superman film reboot.

Black Adam is currently streaming on Max and Netflix.
