The Marvels Video Shows the First Time Teyonah Parris Wore Her Superhero Suit

A behind-the-scenes video from The Marvels has surfaced, showing Monica Rambeau actor Teyonah Parris experiencing a very special moment: the first time she wore her superhero costume for the newly released Marvel Studios film.

A post from Culture Crave on X (formerly Twitter) shared the throwback video, which begins with Parris saying, “Guys… It’s supersuit day!” She lets viewers see the movie’s black-and-white outfit laid out on a bed before she puts it on for a fitting and then dances around in it, all while expressing her excitement with squeals of glee.

The Marvels isn’t Parris’ first appearance as Monica in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it is the first time that she got to suit up to use her light-based superpowers, which she gained in the 2021 miniseries WandaVision. Her S.W.O.R.D. uniform at the time evoked her character’s classic costume from Marvel Comics, and the superhero costume that she wore in The Marvels clearly used the same inspiration.

The Marvels gave Monica Rambeau a chance to cut loose

Monica was introduced as a child in 2019’s Captain Marvel, played by Akira Akbar. Parris took up the mantle as the adult Monica in WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, before she returned for her first theatrical MCU project.

The Marvels shows the formation of Captain Marvel’s titular new team. Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers finds herself leading Iman Vellani‘s Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel along with Parris‘ Monica, who never settles on a superhero name in spite of Kamala’s many suggestions. The movie serves as a sequel to Captain Marvel as well as Ms. Marvel, the 2022 miniseries starring Vellani.

Nia DaCosta directs The Marvels from a script she co-wrote with Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik. In addition to the main trio, the film’s cast includes many new and returning MCU stars — such as Zawe Ashton as Dar-Benn, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Park Seo-joon, Lashana Lynch, Randall Park, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, and Saagar Shaikh.

The Marvels is playing in theaters now.
