Jonathan Majors’ Assault Case Heads to Trial After Judge Denies Dismissal

Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Jonathan Majors, who was charged with domestic assault earlier this year, has been denied a motion to dismiss his case.

As reported by Variety, Majors will indeed face trial, with court a date set for November 29. On March 25, the actor was arrested in New York after allegedly assaulting a woman he was dating at the time, Grace Jabbari. The domestic dispute allegedly took place in a taxi and left Jabbari with “bruising” and “substantial pain and a laceration behind her ear,” for which she was taken to the hospital. Jabbari currently has an order of protection that keeps her and Majors from having any contact.

Majors now faces misdemeanor charges of harassment and assault. He has pleaded not guilty, with his defense attorneys claiming that Jabbari was the one who assaulted him and suggesting that the investigation has been subject to “racial bias.”

In response to Majors’ motion to dismiss, however, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office alleged that the actor’s legal team has misrepresented evidence in the case. Majors faces up to one year in jail if convicted of the misdemeanor charges.

Who does Jonathan Majors play in the MCU?

Majors made his MCU debut in the first season of Disney+‘s Loki in 2021. He portrayed He Who Remains, a variant of the Marvel Comics villain Kang the Conqueror and the mastermind behind the Time Variance Authority. The character is planned to take many different forms as the primary antagonist of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. Majors returned as Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania this past February — one month before his arrest.

It was reported in August that Marvel Studios is undecided on how to handle Kang’s arc in the wake of the allegations against Majors. The actor currently appears in the ongoing second season of Loki as Victor Timely, one of Kang’s many variants. Notably, Loki Season 2 was shot before Majors’ arrest.
