With his remake of Halloween, Rob Zombie gained a reputation as the guy who’d put a lowbrow hicksploitation horror spin on things. For his latest remake, however, he appears to have stayed completely faithful. After dropping many images over Instagram, he finally released a Munsters teaser today. It’s a pretty close remake of the original TV show opening credits, about a family of classic monsters who live relatively normal lives, complete with that rocking retro theme. It’s not quite the full cast — only Herman, Lily, and Grandpa show up. But at the end, they ask the same question the audience will.

Zombie ensemble regulars Jeff Daniel Phillips, Sheri Moon Zombie, and Daniel Roebuck portray Herman, Lily, and Grandpa, respectively. Original Eddie actor Butch Patrick will cameo. Other cast members include Richard Brake, Sylvester McCoy, Cassandra Peterson, Jorge Garcia, and Dee Wallace.
Uncharacteristically for Zombie, The Munsters will bow with a family friendly PG rating. It sees release this fall by Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production arm of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group that develops and produces films for worldwide distribution across all non-theatrical platforms. Zombie named his previous hit single “Dragula” after Grandpa Munster’s coffin race car on the original sitcom.
Phillips’ take on Herman already looks a little different — more nervous and less calm than Fred Gwynne’s. But the original role was so associated with the actor that copying it would have been a mistake anyway.
