Dune Wins 6 Oscars At the Academy Awards

Unfortunately, Spider-Man: No Way Home did not win the Visual Effects Academy Award it was nominated for. However, it was a big night for Dune at the Oscars. Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Dune came home with six Academy Awards for best sound, film editing, original score, production design, best cinematography. and best visual effects. Dune wins 6 Oscars.

AppleTV+’s CODA won best picture and best supporting actor for Troy Kotsur. Will Smith won best actor for King Richard, while Jessica Chastain was awarded best actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Additionally, Ariana DeBose won best supporting actress for West Side Story. Jane Campion won best director for The Power of the Dog.

However, the most talked about moment of the name came when Smith confronted comedian Chris Rock on stage. Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, whose hair loss is due to alopecia. That’s why Smith slapped Rock and told him to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth. Some viewers believed it was staged, but the Oscars doesn’t tend to go for a TV-MA rating, and the language was uncensored around the world. Fair warning, NSFW language is ahead.

Smith offered an explanation and an apology to the academy during his acceptance speech.

On a lighter note, Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead and Zack Snyder’s Justice League won two Twitter poll awards. But the moment chosen from Justice League was The Flash entering the Speed Force, which earned a lot of mockery on social media.
