The Haunted Mansion is re-opening for business next year. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has finally set a release date for their upcoming film based on the long-running theme park attraction. The movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 10, 2023.
Disney began filling out the reboot’s ensemble cast last summer. LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson, and Danny DeVito are all playing key roles in the film. Production took place in New Orleans and Atlanta near the end of last year. According to the logline, this new take on the franchise follows a mother and son who discover the Mansion and meet a variety of colorful characters who help them unlock its many secrets.
The Haunted Mansion previously had a film adaptation in 2003 with Eddie Murphy that received overwhelmingly negative reviews. The reboot will mark Disney’s first ride-based film since Jungle Cruise opened last summer. Disney is also developing new movies based on Space Mountain and Tower of Terror.

So far, the only competition the reboot faces at the box office is Warner Bros.’ Wonka prequel starring Timothée Chalamet. That film hits theaters a week later on March 17.
Justin Simien is directing The Haunted Mansion from a screenplay by Katie Dippold. Rideback’s Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are producing, with Nick Reynolds serving as an executive producer.
