Disney Veterans Will Bring DC’s Metal Men To the Big Screen

DC League of Super-Pets won’t be the only DC animated film from Warner Bros. Animation Group. According to The Hollywood Reporter, DC’s Metal Men will get their own animated movie on the big screen. Additionally, the project is being led by Ron Clements and John Musker, the writers, producers and directors behind some of Disney’s biggest animated hits. Clements and Musker are co-producing Metal Men and they also co-wrote the film’s treatment.

Some of Clements and Musker’s previous collaborations include Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, Treasure Planet, The Princess and the Frog, and Moana. This will be the duo’s first major project for Warner Bros. and DC.

Robert Kanigher and artist Ross Andru created the Metal Men in 1962. Within the DC Universe, the Metal Men were the android creations of Dr. William Magnus. Unlike other androids, Gold, Platinum, Iron, Lead, Tin, and Mercury had the capacity for emotions. They also had powers that were derived from the respective metals that were used for their names.

Celeste Ballard will write the script for Metal Men. Her previous work includes Space Jam: A New Legacy, which was released earlier this year. THR also speculates that Metal Men will be a comedic take on the characters. Clements and Musker will likely direct the film.

Additionally, THR’s report indicates that Warners Animation Group “will be leaning more heavily on the DC brand as it grows.” WAG’s first DC animated film, DC League of Super-Pets, will hit theaters on May 20, 2022.
