It looks like Batgirl is taking cues from Batman Beyond and Titans by making Barbara a cop in the film. But whether she works under her father, Jim Gordon, as a GCPD officer or if she is stationed at another precinct altogether remains to be seen. In the comics, Commissioner Gordon objected to his daughter following in his footsteps, so it should be interesting to see how this affects their relationship onscreen.

The clapboard in the photo also confirms that John Mathieson is working on Batgirl as the film’s director of photography. Mathieson already has some experience shooting superhero movies, having tackled X-Men: First Class, Logan, and the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He also received a pair of Oscar nominations for his work on Gladiator and The Phantom of the Opera.

In the Heights star Leslie Grace is headlining Batgirl as the title character. So far the supporting cast includes Brendan Fraser as the movie’s villain and J.K. Simmons reprising his Justice League role as Commissioner Gordon. Jacob Scipio also has a mystery role in the film.

HBO Max hasn’t announced a release date for Batgirl. But it will likely premiere in 2022.
