Sony Sets 2023 Release Dates For Two New Marvel Movies

As Venom: Let There Be Carnage continues to make bank at the box office, Sony is plotting the future of its standalone Marvel Universe. Deadline is reporting that the studio has planted flags in 2023 for two mystery Marvel projects. The unnamed films are now scheduled to hit theaters on June 23, 2023 and October 6, 2023.

The movies join the previously-announced Kraven the Hunter spinoff on Sony’s 2023 slate. As far as we know, that film is still opening on January 13, 2023, with J.C. Chandor directing and Aaron Taylor-Johnson starring as the title character. However, there are several films currently in development that could be claiming these latest dates on the studio’s calendar. It’s possible that Sony is saving the October date for Venom 3, since the franchise has proven to be a strong fall earner. Regardless, it’s still too early to tell if this is actually the plan.

Sony’s upcoming Marvel slate also includes vehicles for Silk, Nightwatch, Madame Web, and Jackpot, among several others. Last summer, the studio hired Olivia Wilde to direct her own female-centric Marvel movie, but we still don’t know which characters will appear. Sony is also planning a Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse spinoff centering on a team of female characters.

In the meantime, Sony is once again teaming up with Marvel Studios to release Spider-Man: No Way Home on December 17. This will be followed by Morbius on January 28, 2022 and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 on October 7, 2022.
