Venom: Let There Be Carnage Moves To An Early October Release

The Shang-Chi effect is real. Marvel Studios’ latest movie had a massive holiday weekend with nearly $90 million at the box office. Apparently, that success has also emboldened Sony Pictures. That’s why Venom: Let There Be Carnage is now coming to theaters two weeks early on Friday, October 1. The previous release date was October 15, and there had also been some rumors that the Venom sequel could have been pushed back again if Shang-Chi failed to open like a Marvel movie.

Via The Hollywood Reporter, Let There Be Carnage now has some more serious competition. The Many Saints of Newark, is also opening on October 1, as is The Addams Family 2. That’s going to be the real test of the box office’s resiliency. Will fans come out in large numbers for a Marvel movie that isn’t in the MCU? And will the other films be able to find an audience as well?

Sony repeatedly delayed Let There Be Carnage because of the ongoing pandemic. Assuming that the October 1st date holds, it will be the sixth release date for the film. That’s very unusual, but these are also unusual times.
