Vin Diesel Offers an Update on the Next Riddick Sequel

It’s been nearly a decade since Vin Diesel last donned Richard B. Riddick’s welding goggles on the big screen. However, the character’s return might be happening sooner rather than later. There have been whispers about a fourth Riddick entry for years, and in a new interview with GamesRadar+, Diesel offered an update about where the proposed film currently stands.

Fans of the Riddick franchise aren’t exactly strangers to long gaps in time between films. They memorably had to wait four years between 2000’s Pitch Black and 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick. Regardless, this was nothing compared to the nine-year wait to see Riddick in 2013. Diesel revealed in 2019 that writer/director David Twohy had turned in his script for a fourth installment, which is subtitled Furya, after Riddick’s home planet. Now, it all comes down to finding the right start date.

“It’s so funny, I was just wearing my Furyion shirt,” said Diesel. “David Twohy, he wrote a great script. It’s just a matter of timing when we get that opportunity to shoot that. But I believe we’re shooting that in Australia. And it would be the fourth chapter in that series, which would be awesome.”

Apart from the movies, the Riddick brand also inspired two hit video games: Escape from Butcher Bay (a prequel to The Chronicles of Riddick) and Assault on Dark Athena. And if we’re lucky, a follow-up to those games is on the horizon as well.

“We did have great success with Escape From Butcher Bay,” added Diesel. “It feels like an eternity ago now. But, I imagine that we would take advantage of the gaming space and add an extra chapter, but definitely, the [movie’s] script is already written. So it’s safe to say that we are moving towards filming the fourth chapter of Riddick.”
