Zack Snyder Releases Alternate Knightmare Scene From Justice League

Back in February, Zack Snyder premiered a trailer for his four-hour cut of Justice League that teased a brand new scene featuring Jared Leto’s Joker. But as soon as it hit the web, all anyone could talk about was Leto’s delivery of the line “We live in a society,” a phrase that has been a staple of meme culture for years. The line was ultimately left out of the finished film that hit HBO Max last month. However, Snyder shared an alternate version of the movie’s Knightmare scene that adds it back into the mix. You can check it out for yourself below.

Presented in glorious black and white, the scene largely plays out as it did in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Ben Affleck’s Batman and Leto’s Clown Prince of Crime taunt each other over the loss of their loved ones in the aftermath of Darkseid’s invasion. Joe Manganiello’s Slade Wilson/Deathstroke also appears at the end of the clip.

Additionally, it looks like Snyder and Leto are aiming to make the most of the line’s popularity. The director’s tweet also includes a link to a merch page for Leto’s band, Thirty Seconds to Mars. There, fans can purchase a t-shirt with “we live in a society” across the chest. Fifty percent of all sales will be donated to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention. The design is also available on a pullover hoodie as well.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League and its black and white counterpart, Justice is Gray, are both streaming on HBO Max.
