Fans got really close to seeing Anakin Skywalker making a cameo in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Technically, it would have been only Anakin’s ghost, but still. In a recent Q&A on Twitter, The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson revealed that he considered bringing Anakin and his son Luke together during the burning tree scene.
Briefly for the tree burning scene, but luke’s relationship was with Vader not really anakin, which seemed like it would complicate things more than that moment allowed. Yoda felt like the more impactful teacher for that moment.

Eventually, Johnson opted to make Yoda’s spirit appear and summon a bolt of lightning that destroys the Jedi library on Ahch-To.

While many fans didn’t like the director’s answer, it can be argued that Johnson’s choice was the most logical one. After all, Yoda has been both Luke’s teacher and one of the most-important Jedi ever. If someone had the right to burn that library both metaphorically and physically, that someone was Yoda. And after all, “page turners, they were not.” (Besides that, some can also argue that Yoda’s spirit already knew that Rey saved some of the Jedi knowledge.)
In the same Q&A, Johnson also revealed that he was the one who came up with the movie’s title from the beginning of the writing process.
