Patty Jenkins Says Wonder Woman 3 Will Be Her Last DC Movie

Right now, it’s anyone’s guess if Wonder Woman 1984 will actually make its new fall premiere. But even though the sequel hasn’t hit theaters yet, director Patty Jenkins is still thinking about Diana’s future. Jenkins has previously said on multiple occasions that she has the character’s three film arc almost completely mapped out. However, fans shouldn’t expect her to stick around past Wonder Woman 3.

Jenkins recently sat down for an interview with the German magazine Geek (via /Film). When asked about her return for Wonder Woman 1984, Jenkins explained that she was excited to delve deeper into the character after getting her origin story out of the way in the original film.

“[Wonder Woman 1984] gave me a chance to do a lot of things that I couldn’t accommodate in the first movie,” said Jenkins. “I was so happy to tell the Wonder Woman origin story. It was almost her birth, but we really haven’t seen what she is capable of. It is exciting for me to show her at the peak of her strength. But it is also very important that she fights an internal struggle: she is a Goddess and tries to help humanity. She is not only someone who fights evil; she tries to show bad people how to improve. It’s an interesting dilemma.”

Regardless of her enthusiasm for Wonder Woman, Jenkins is hinting that it will be her final film with the heroine.

“The next one is probably my last Wonder Woman movie,” added Jenkins. “So I have to put everything I want to show there. We have to think carefully.”

In addition to helming Wonder Woman 3, Jenkins is also developing a spinoff headlined by other Amazon characters with Geoff Johns. Although she won’t direct this movie herself, she’ll have a behind-the-scenes role as a producer.

Barring any further delays, Wonder Woman 1984 will open on Friday, October 2.
