Although Quentin Tarantino has flirted with the idea of doing a Star Trek movie, that wasn’t his first brush with genre. During a recent appearance on Amy Schumer’s 3 Girls, 1 Keith podcast, Tarantino recalled that he wanted to make a Luke Cage movie back in the ’90s. And he had Laurence Fishburne was his choice to play the original Hero for Hire.
“There was a time before all this Marvel s*** was coming out,” recalled Tarantino. “It was after Reservoir Dogs, it was before Pulp Fiction, and I had thought about doing Luke Cage. Growing up I was a big comic-book collector, and my two favorite [comics] were Luke Cage: Hero for Hire, later Luke Cage: Power Man, and Shang-Chi: Master of Kung Fu. All my friends were like, ‘No, no, no, man, it’s got to be Wesley Snipes. And I go, ‘Well look, I like Wesley Snipes, but I mean, Larry Fishburne is practically Marlon Brando. I mean, I think ‘Fish’ is the man.’”
Wesley Snipes eventually headlined the Blade trilogy, while Fishburne co-starred in Ant-Man and the Wasp for Marvel Studios.

Mike Colter played Luke Cage in two seasons of his own show on Netflex, as well as appearances in Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. However, it’s unclear whether Marvel Studios has plans for those characters once the rights fully revert back from Netflix.
