Russian Batman Takes No Prisoners In New Superman: Red Son Preview

In 2003, Mark Millar and artist Dave Johnson’s landmark Elseworlds series, Superman: Red Son, gave fans a glimpse of what would happen if Kal-El’s rocket landed in the Soviet Union. Superman grew up indoctrinated with a communist world view and he tried to impose that utopia on the rest of the planet. However, Superman wasn’t the only one to be affected by this twist of fate. In this world, Batman emerged in Russia with a vendetta against the Man of Steel. And unlike his American counterpart, this Batman kills.

Via IGN, Warner Bros. has released a new preview scene from Superman: Red Son, the new animated adaptation of Millar and Johnson’s story. In the clip, Batman makes his public debut by destroying a symbol of Superman’s regime. And he simply doesn’t care who gets hurt or killed in the process.

Keep in mind, Russian Batman is not Bruce Wayne. However, he is someone who lost both of his parents to the darker side of communism. His ruthless streak also makes Batman extremely dangerous in this world.

Roger Craig Smith voices Batman in this film opposite Jason Isaacs as Superman, and Vanessa Marshall as Wonder Woman. Diedrich Bader  also stars as Lex Luthor, with Amy Acker as Lois Lane, Phil LaMarr as John Stewart, Sasha Roiz as Hal Jordan, Travis Willingham as Superior Man, and Phil Morris as James Olsen.

Superman: Red Son is available on digital platforms now. A Blu-ray release will follow on April 17.
