The Matrix 4 Adds Sense8’s Brian J. Smith in a Mystery Role

Despite outcry from its loyal fanbase, Netflix never gave Sense8 a third season. However, The Matrix 4 is turning into a veritable reunion of cast members from the cult sci-fi series. Deadline is reporting that Brian J. Smith is the latest Sense8 alum to join the cast of the highly anticipated sequel.

Smith starred on Sense8 as Chicago PD officer Will Gorski from the series’ outset in 2015 until its cancellation in 2018. He previously made his first foray into sci-fi when he was cast on Stargate Universe as Lt. Matthew Scott from 2009 to 2011. More recently, Scott appeared on the BBC series World on Fire. He currently stars on USA’s Treadstone, which premiered its first season last fall.

Details on Smith’s role in The Matrix 4 are virtually non-existent. But he is the fourth Sense8 actor to come aboard the film. His former castmates Max Riemert, Toby Onwumere, and Erendira Ibarra also joined the sequel in recent months. Details about their characters are also unknown at this time.

Production on The Matrix 4 began earlier this month in San Francisco. Over the last few weeks, several bystanders have managed to capture videos of Keanu Reeves back in character as Neo on the film’s set, and it looks like he’ll be sporting his John Wick hairstyle in the sequel. This makes sense, since he’ll presumably soon start work on John Wick: Chapter 4; which is currently theaters on the same day as The Matrix 4 on May 21, 2021.
