Warner Bros. Places Shazam! 2 Release Date In April 2022

Earlier this year, Shazam! made his debut on the big screen. However, he won’t stay away for long. Via Deadline, Warner Bros. has revealed that Shazam! 2 will open on April 1, 2022. The sequel’s creative team wasn’t included in the announcement. But earlier this year, director David F. Sandberg and screenwriter Henry Gayden were both reportedly returning to develop the sequel.

Presumably, Asher Angel will reprise his role as Billy Batson, while Zachary Levi will portray Billy’s adult counterpart as Shazam. Faithe Herman, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen, Ross Butler, and Jovan Armand are also likely to return as Billy’s foster siblings.

Shazam!‘s post-credits scene set up a potential sequel when Mark Strong’s Sivana was approached by Mr. Mind, a villainous talking caterpillar.

Dwayne Johnson’s long-gestating Black Adam movie will beat the Shazam! sequel to theaters by a few months. Black Adam was the first champion chosen by the Wizard thousands of years ago. However, Black Adam rebelled against the Wizard’s guidance and he was exiled. In the comics, Black Adam was Shazam/Captain Marvel’s primary nemesis. But within the last two decades, Black Adam has also been re-envisioned as a more sympathetic antihero.

Black Adam will hit theaters on December 22, 2021. Time will tell if Black Adam and Shazam! 2 will have any direct crossover with each other.
