Naomi Ackie’s Star Wars Character’s History and Weapon Are ‘Relevant’

Even though The Rise of Skywalker will put an end to many of the stories in the Star Wars universe, the final installment of the nine-film Skywalker saga will also introduce new characters. Naomi Ackie’s Jannah counts herself among the latter, as she will debut in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming movie. Speaking with the Los Angeles Times, Ackie teased her character’s involvement with many of the Star Wars issues.

“Whatever characters [are introduced] now have to add to wrapping up the story, because we know this is the end of the Skywalker saga,” Ackie said. “Her importance to the story has to be relevant — and it feels relevant, definitely, for some of the characters and for the larger picture.”

The British actress speaks cautiously about her mysterious character. “She’s fierce,” Ackie said. “She’s got a lot of history involved with the issues in the film. Once you find out her story, you’re rooting for her and you can understand why she’s fighting.”

Ackie went on to explain that Jannah is ambidextrous and that the bow is the perfect weapon for her.

“When you find out more about Jannah’s history and where she comes from, it makes a lot of sense,” Ackie added. “That’s all I can say, is the bow makes sense.”

The information we possess about Ackie’s character is really scarce. Apart from wielding a bow, she uses to ride a horse-like creature called an Orbak. We know also that she joined the Resistance at some point, and we also saw her standing by John Boyega’s Finn. Our guess is that she might actually be Lando Calrissian’s daughter, but that’s a long shot.
