Disney’s Star Tours Getting Rise of Skywalker Upgrades

While Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is Disney’s huge attraction at the moment, motion-simulator ride Star Tours continues to do well at its theme parks. And now it’s set to receive an overhaul that will provide fans a closer look at a location from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Over on the Disney Parks blog, Tom Fitzgerald confirmed that Star Tours will get a new scenario featuring a familiar location. He noted that on December 20, “Star Tours — The Adventures Continue will be adding new destinations inspired by the latest episode of the Star Wars saga.” This includes the Star Tours set-ups at Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disney Resort.

He noted that one of the key locations from the film, the ocean moon Kef Bir, appears in the update. As fans saw in the latest trailer (included below), Kylo Ren and Rey have a huge lightsaber battle there.

“All I can say at this point is that Starspeeders will be heading there soon!” Fitzgerald said, referring to the vehicle fans cruise around in during the ride.

He promised “more details in the future,” which we’ll likely learn about sometime next month or in December. Disney probably just wants to avoid spoilers, since The Rise of Skywalker is a pretty huge deal with fans.

That’s around the same time that the Rise of the Resistance ride will open at Galaxy’s Edge. It currently has a launch date of December 5 in Orlando, Florida, opening in Anaheim a month later on January 17. There’s no word yet on when it will launch for the Paris and Tokyo Disneyland.

With this update, Disney looks to continue its hype for The Rise of Skywalker, which has already begun setting pre-sales records before its release. Could it top the company’s previous records with Avengers: Endgame? Guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker releases on December 20. The trailer below features some glimpses of the new Star Tours location, if you look closely enough.
