Avengers: Endgame’s final battle over the team’s ruined New York headquarters is epic for a lot of reasons. But one of the fight’s standout moments came when Marvel’s cast of heroines gathered for a single shot. Captain Marvel, Wasp, Okoye, Scarlet Witch, Rescue, and more were all seen charging Thanos’ forces, indicating that the MCU’s future is in safe and capable hands. Judging by new photos posted to Robert Downey Jr.’s Instagram, it looks like the film’s starlets bonded offscreen as well.
Downey was kind enough to host a lunch with the MCU’s leading ladies at some point during Endgame’s lengthy production. His pictures include Evangeline Lilly, Danai Gurira, Elizabeth Olsen, Karen Gillan, Letitia Wright, Gwyneth Paltrow, Pom Klementieff, Brie Larson, and Zoe Saldana. Endgame brings Downey’s 11-year tenure as Iron Man to a close. That’s why his pictures feel like a defacto passing of the torch. Kevin Feige has indicated that Marvel Studios plans on embracing diversity for its upcoming Phase Four slate. Although the female heroes’ team-up scene was dismissed by some critics as little more than fan service, it’s likely a stepping stone for what’s to come. If Downey thinks the MCU is on the right track, who are we to argue?
