Earlier this week, Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse bested Disney and Pixar by taking home the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. To celebrate that win, Sony is re-releasing Into the Spider-Verse back into theaters one last time.
Rodney Rothman, one of the film’s co-directors, dropped the announcement on twitter, and noted that it includes IMAX screens.

However, those IMAX screens will be occupied by Captain Marvel near the end of next week. But the vast majority of the Into the Spider-Verse re-release will be in standard theaters.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will also receive an “Alt-Universe Cut.” As explained by the film’s directors, it’s an extended edit that restores lost scenes and expands certain roles. For example, Miles’ roommate, Ganke, will have a much larger presence in the “Alt-Universe Cut.” While speaking with CinemaBlend, co-director Bob Persichetti revealed why Miles and Ganke’s relationship was underdeveloped in the final film.
“What we ended up running into was just to two things. It was just like, ‘Oh, wow. Homecoming, Ned – very similar to Ganke,’” said Perichetti. “And then, ‘Well, maybe it’s actually better if Miles experiences these things without a really well-educated Sherpa holding his hand through all the powers coming on and everything,’ and it ended up helping us out for that place where Peter comes into the movie.”
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse received a digital release earlier this week. The Blu-ray and DVD will follow on March 19.
